Some vehicles just have a lot of miles ahead of them. This F250 Super Duty Lariat was heading out for seven weeks on the road - and before it left, the owner wanted it fully protected. That kind of trip means serious exposure: highway dust, UV, bugs, road grime. Getting a proper wash and sealant on before all that is just smart ownership.
We started with a full exterior hand wash to strip off any surface contaminants before applying anything on top of the paint. Hand washing matters here because it lets us feel what we're working with - any rough spots, fallout, or areas that need extra attention before the sealant goes on. Once the paint was clean and prepped, we laid down a coat of sealant to give the clear coat a layer of actual protection for the road ahead.
The wheels and tires got the same level of attention. Brake dust, road oil, and grime built up in those spokes will bake on fast under summer heat. We cleaned everything out thoroughly and finished the tires so they look right heading out. Inside, the cabin got a full interior detail - the leather seats, dash, and floors all cleaned up and ready for a long haul.
Here's the thing about sealant specifically - it's not just about looks. It creates a barrier between your paint and everything the road throws at it. Dust and UV are two of the biggest paint killers on a long trip, especially in dry, hot climates. A good sealant won't make your truck bulletproof, but it gives the paint a fighting chance to come back in decent shape after weeks of hard driving.
If you've got a trip coming up - whether it's a week or a month - this is the kind of prep that's worth doing before you leave, not after you get back.
