Horse trailers take a beating. Dust, road grime, manure, hay debris - it stacks up fast. And a lot of owners don't think about cleaning and protecting their trailer until it's really bad. The truth is, letting that buildup sit does real damage over time, especially on the exterior panels and around the wheels.
Here's what we were working with - a Trails West Adventure horse trailer that needed a full refresh. We started with a thorough exterior hand wash, working the entire body from top to bottom. Every panel, every seam, every corner. This isn't a rinse-and-go situation. We're working the soap in by hand to break down the grime that sits in the gaps and along the trim.
The wheels and tires on this one got their own dedicated attention. Trailer tires and wheels collect brake dust, dirt, and road tar that a basic hose-down won't touch. We cleaned each wheel face and tire sidewall down to bare metal and rubber, then finished them off so they actually look like they belong on a well-kept trailer.
The spare tire and the under-carriage storage bay area got cleaned out too. That's the kind of spot that usually gets skipped, but it matters. Grime that hides in those areas can cause corrosion over time, and it's a lot cheaper to keep it clean than deal with that down the road.
The end result is a trailer that's clean, protected, and ready to haul. If your trailer has been sitting between trips collecting road grime and dust, this is exactly the kind of detail that puts it back in good shape - and keeps it there longer.
